The Conjuring: Last Rites (2025) – The Warrens’ Terrifying Final Chapter
“The Conjuring: Last Rites” is the fourth installment in the popular horror film series “The Conjuring”, scheduled to be released in the United States on September 5, 2025.
The film is directed by Michael Chaves, who previously directed “The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It” (2021). James Wan and Peter Safran continue to serve as producers, maintaining consistency and quality for the series.
Main actors:
Patrick Wilson as Ed Warren
Vera Farmiga as Lorraine Warren
Plot: Currently, the plot details of “The Conjuring: Last Rites” have not been widely announced. However, based on the previous installments, the film will continue to follow the supernatural investigator couple Ed and Lorraine Warren as they face new paranormal phenomena and dangers.
Here are some of the ideas that could make The Conjuring: Last Rites a more compelling and engaging film:
1. Warren’s Biggest and Most Dangerous Supernatural Case
The film could explore an extremely gruesome supernatural case, far beyond anything Ed and Lorraine have ever faced. It could be an ancient evil entity, more powerful than Valak (The Nun) or Bathsheba (The Conjuring). This case not only threatens the victims involved but also directly attacks the Warrens, putting them in a life-or-death situation.
2. Lorraine’s Weakening and Impact on the Investigation
Lorraine Warren, who has strong psychic abilities, may be gradually weakened by the influence of the evil entity. This makes it difficult for her to reach spirits or see premonitions like before. Will Ed be able to protect her as she is drawn deeper into the demonic world?
3. A Last Rites – What Does The Last Rites Really Mean?
The title Last Rites could be a reference to an unprecedentedly dangerous exorcism. Ed and Lorraine may have to perform a forbidden ritual that risks sacrificing what is most important to them. Are they willing to make the ultimate sacrifice to stop the demon once and for all?
4. The return of Valak or another terrifying entity
Valak may not have been truly destroyed and is seeking revenge on Warren. Or, the film could introduce a new demon with connections to previous cases, creating a connection between the films in The Conjuring universe.
5. A tragic ending or sacrifice
Since this is the final film in the main series, it is possible that the film will end with a major sacrifice. Ed or Lorraine may lose their lives in the fight against the demonic force. Or they may give up their exorcism careers after realizing the high price they have to pay.
6. The emergence of a new generation
It is possible that the film will reveal Warren’s successors, such as their daughter Judy Warren, who appeared in Annabelle Comes Home. If she develops psychic abilities like her mother, The Conjuring could open a new direction for the future.
If the film exploits these elements, The Conjuring: Last Rites will not only be a terrifying horror film, but also bring an emotional and dramatic conclusion to the series.
Vera Farmiga is paying tribute to her “fake marriage” with Patrick Wilson.
The actress honored her costar as he marked his last day filming for The Conjuring: Last Rites, the conclusion of the horror franchise. Wilson and Farmiga, both 51, have held the roles of Ed and Lorraine Warren since the first installment that debuted in 2013.
“Roundabout 5000 days ago, this guy and I signed a WB contract and said ‘I do’ to embody Ed and Lorraine Warren. Today, he wraps,” Farmiga wrote on Instagram Nov. 21, sharing a black-and-white wedding prop photo of the couple.
“I have another 12 hours of laughter and insanity with him and then suddenly, he will walk off set, peel off sweat soaked demonologist garb, shave off his side burns, flash that dazzling smile and bid our fake marriage adieu,” she continued. “Yeah… I got them feeling today.”
Offscreen, Farmiga is married to musician Renn Hawkey, and Wilson is married to Succession actress Dagmara Domińczyk.
Michael Chaves, who helmed the third Conjuring and The Nun II, is directing the final Conjuring film. Wan shared a photo from the set in October and wrote on Instagram, “Always good to see and hang out with old friends. Gonna miss everyone. End of an era.”
The Conjuring: Last Rites is in theaters Sept. 5, 2025.
